INTRODUCTION FROM THE AUTHOR
My first year of college was spent experiencing new
things, meeting new people, and just trying to have the best time I
could in whatever I was doing. So when talk of spring break rolled
around, I decided that I had to do it big. A lot of destination
ideas were thrown out, but everyone knew South Padre Island had a
reputation for being one of the top spring break destinations in
the United States, and with my school's relatively close proximity
in San Antonio, we decided it definitely made the most sense.
When we arrived on the island, we immediately realized we had made
the right decision. Chaos and debauchery were everywhere, and we
knew that we were about to have the times of our lives---and we
definitely did. I partied harder, met more people, and had more fun
in one week than I ever had in my life. The beach was crazy, the
nightlife was pulsating, and I loved every minute of it. In fact, I
loved it so much I went back my sophomore year, and it's come up
again as a possibility for next year's trip. South Padre is not for
the faint of heart, and it's certainly not for someone whose idea
of a crazy night is having people over for sci-fi nights. Don't
worry, though, the island's atmosphere is enough to bring out the
party side in almost anyone. But a good party isn't the only thing
the island has to offer---it's also a haven for outdoor sports
lovers. So whether it's the outdoors, the people, the beaches, or
the nightlife, the island has more to offer than you can
imagine.

NOTE: South Padre Island was hit hard by Hurricane
Dolly in July 2008. Many hotels, restaurants, and bars suffered
damage, and while most worked to reopen as quickly as possible,
it's best to double check if anything is still closed when booking
your trip.
