The Inside Scoop On . . .LAKE HAVASU
BEST Things About Lake Havasu
- Waking up at 10 a.m. to your next door neighbor making
mimosas
- Free Rockstar energy drink hats, Frisbees, and drinks---it
really does keep you wanting to party more
- Students from Arizona State University and the University of
Arizona getting along for a few days
- The hot sun and cold water---nothing feels better than jumping
in, be it from a boat or a huge cliff
- The In-N-Out Burger that is open until 1:30 a.m. on
weekends
- Generous people with generous amounts of food they are willing
to feed you---if you are nice
- Reasonable prices compared to other spring break
destinations
- Water activities
WORST Things About Lake Havasu
- Boring times in the hotel room for students without a boat or
Jet Ski
- Guys who bring their boats care more about the boat than
meeting new people---even girls
- Expensive, mediocre food
- Getting sunburned on your first day out---make sure you wear
sunscreen!
- Hopping from boat to boat in Copper Canyon---the wake and the
beer make it an obstacle course to try to successfully jump onto
someone's boat
- Not being able to sleep in because the music is bumping all
over Lake Havasu in the morning
- No nearby airport
- Cops everywhere
Things I Wish I Knew Before Coming to Lake Havasu
- The heat of the desert radiates and bakes your skin. With
alcohol, you tend to forget to lube up until the next day, when you
have to stay inside because of how severely burnt you are.
- Beer is expensive once you are near the main hotels and boating
area, so if you want to save a couple of bucks, make sure you bring
your own booze.
- Bring an extra swimsuit, just in case. Thieves have been known
to steal suits while they are out drying, so it'd be a good idea to
have a second one.
- The locals know all of the good bars and clubs around and
probably would love it if you joined them---so ask!
- Check the weather report a week or so in advance of your trip
so you can plan accordingly if it's supposed to rain.

It is rumored that Robert McCulloch, purchaser of the London

when he realized his mistake, he allegedly killed himself.

Students Speak Out On . . . LAKE HAVASU
"Our
group of friends decided we weren't going to rent a boat. We were
just going to use our charm and excellent persuasion to get a ride
to the infamous party cove. Within minutes, we were speeding down
Lake Havasu and heard the music roaring throughout the cove,
echoing off of the cliffs and propelling back into our ears."
"It is true that bringing your own food and drinks saves a ton
of money. Also, gathering up a huge group of people to split hotel
fees saves even more. The only thing is, you can only eat a certain
number of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches before you start to
get queasy, and Doritos do not fill you up after a log day on the
lake."
"After a six-hour drive from Tucscon, we finally arrived at Lake
Havasu and saw a massive lake covered in a layer of boats and
college students with their engines revving and music blaring. It
struck us then that this was going to be an epic spring break."
"Lake Havasu was something different than what I am used to for
spring break. This really was my first party-themed spring break
where drinking at 10 a.m. was mandatory, but it was worth it
because I have so many pictures---aka blackmail---from this
trip."
"Havasu was one of my top three spring breaks ever after Japan
and Hawaii. It sounds strange, but all the people were great, the
party scene was great, and it goes kind of like Vegas: 'What
happens in Havasu, stays in Havasu.' That's my new motto for
life."
"I think one spring break at Lake Havasu is enough for me. We
met tons of kids who go there every year, but after all that
partying and sun, my liver is killing me. No more beer for me---at
least until next spring break."
The College Prowler Take On . . . LAKE HAVASU
If any
trip that involves water and fast boats, Jet Skis, or wakeboarding
is your style, then Lake Havasu fits those requirements to a "T."
Taking a siesta after a day in the water and sun before you go out
for the night is almost necessary because of how tiring it is on
your body. While some people are quite capable of doing spring
break without naps, you might get cranky if you don't get in a
power nap.
Try to book your hotel in advance because many places jack up their
prices for spring break. Boats, Jet Skis, and other outdoor
adventures will cost you a lot, especially during the month of
March. If you want to rent a boat, you will need to bring $300 to
rent one each day. A way to cut costs is to go on a massive trip to
the grocery store once you're there to buy all the booze and snacks
you will need for your time there, and make sure your hotel
refrigerator will hold all of it. Honestly, doing this will save a
significant amount of money because you won't have to tip at
restaurants, and you won't have to pay for so many drinks out at
the bars because you can just drink in your hotel room before going
out. Also, Googling "spring break Lake Havasu" seems to bring up
tons of deals and bargains.
