INTRODUCTION FROM THE AUTHOR
Key West is one of the few destinations in the
country that might as well require a passport because it's not your
average American city. It is an island 155 miles out in the middle
of the ocean---only 90 miles away from Cuba. And Cuba's influence
is certainly felt on this spicy little island. From the Latin clubs
to the delectable smells, you can't help but notice that Key West
is one of a kind. Thankfully, Key West is easy enough to find---get
on US-1 and keep going south until you reach mile marker zero. Then
there is my personal favorite: Take the smallest plane you can
find---the kind that only seats ten people---and jump on it because
it must be heading to Key West International Airport, the home of
the tiniest commercial airlines.
Key West is the kind of destination where the days are wet and the
nights are hot! You start on the boat, head to the bars, and then
crawl back to your hotel around 4 a.m., usually with someone you
met at the beach. Interested in Latin food? Curious about the
hotties who hang out on the reef? Ever wanted to go parasailing or
make a Jet Ski soar through the air? If so, Key West is the memory
you're just dying to make.
